Gear lube Question

I just drained my lowerunits lube and it was a choclate milk color with black swirls in it. Bad or normal? 1972 evinrude 65 hp "selectric shift"

How long since it was last changed?<br /><br />Put new gaskets/o-rings on the fill and drain screws and check it again after a couple of trips.

looks or sounds like water in the lu.drain and change fluid .then put new drain,fill washers on try it for say half to an hour drain again if its still that chocalate swirl youll need to put in new seals.good luck.<br /> ***1971 18' winner 1969 115 jonny*** <br /> "thursday"

Your gearcase is a hydro-electric, not selectric. That is a very good gearcase, but you must keep the water out of it.If it has a water leak, you must find, and fix it.If it were mine, I would replace the drive, and prop shaft seals, along with the prop shaft bearing carrier oring. and retaining bolt o-rings. This really is not a hard job with the proper manual.

Thanks. Ill change the seals and orings. I just got this boat this year and have no idea how long its been since the lube has been changed. Thanks again guys.
