Hi all,

I have three unopened bottles of Quicksilver High Performance Gear Lube designed for "all Mercruiser Stern Drives". Can I use this stuff in my Merc 150 outboard?

That's the good stuff. My mechanic made me dump my lube and put that in.

hope it helps

J Martin,

Thanks for the reply. To be clear, is there any problem using this stuff designed for an I/O in my OB?

Thanks!

Re: Gear Lube

I doubt it. They're all high viscosity gear oils, with tremendous film strength. The High performance has higher film strength, and an acceptably high film strength even with a little water in it.

My XR4 gearcase is on the edge of extinction right out of the crate because of the large amount of power going through a small gearcase. That's why my mechanic had me change the oil.

The shifting in all of them is slam bang dog clutch stuff, so "friction modification" additives you could need in a synchronized transmission are out of the question.

Merc Hi-performance gear lube is expensive, but worth it.

Use it.

hope it helps

Use it as j martin says that is the good stuff!! And it is what the Merc mechanic will charge you $ 25.00 for to fill your lower unit.
