Gear oil in bellows

I recently replaced the seal on the yoke. I only used the boat once since then to check out the rest of my rebuild of the lower unit. I removed the drive today to winterize and found new gear oil in the bellows! Is it possible I put the seal on backwards? I replaced the seal and the carrier. Or is it probably the yoke being worn?

Re: Gear oil in bellows

If the seal surface of the yoke had any grooves, or rust, it is probably leaking..

Seal should be installed with lips facing in towards the gears...

did you also install a new O ring around the seal carrier?

Scott..
