Gear oil leak

I have a 2006 seaswirl volvo penta 5.7. Last week noticed gear oil resevoir dry, refilled ran this week all oil in resevoir gone. also started noticing a higher pitch in the engine sound. Boat is moored in the marina. what are the possibilities and actions.

Prop seal. I suggest not using it until it's fixed as you are hearing gears crying from lack of oil

Whats the expected cost, is easy to do myself?

I suggest verifying that's where the leak is first. Usually that is done by pressure testing the drive. Here is a manual but I dont really know what drive you have.

It can also be the input shaft seal and it's leaking into the bellows. Pull the drive and find out. If it's not in there, count on the prop shaft seal being bad.

Follow Walt's link, you should have an SX drive. Removal is not hard. Replacing either seal will take some tools, parts, and time even with a service manual.

Skydive is right, even if you pull the prop and find a leak its still a good idea to pull it and check the input shaft seal.
