Gear oil leaking on floor

Hello forum, I have an Alpha One that I took the upper half to a local dealer last summer for fresh seals. Gear oil was leaking on the garage floor over the winter. Also replaced the small O-ring between the upper and lower units during reassembly. Oil is still leaking on the floor, and there is a small amount of milky water laden oil in the unit, but much less than before the repair. However, the boat was ran only twice last year, post repair, so not many opportunities to have water penetrate the unit.
When removing the the lower half of the unit yesterday I saw oil running down from the upper drive shaft seal area. Could this mean the seal is leaking, or possibly some oil was trapped in the upper unit and simply ran down when the parts were separated?
Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks, Jason

A GEN II drive will lose oil if seperated, it uses 2 seals back to back , removing the lower creates a leak.Did you replace the shaft seal under the water pump base. Thats another place for a leak.

Hi

If you have a header tank fitted (on side of upper engine) then there is a pipe that goes from that to the drive. It’s often the case that a careless removal of the drove can break the fitting piece between the two. It may be leaking from here.

Taking apart the cases would let oil run down the shaft. In my opinion, you need to fully drain the cases and pressure test them. Only way to actually know where it is leaking. You can make your pressure tester easily, directions in the Adults Only section.

Really hard to answer with decent specifics unless you post year and serial number. That way we can all tell just what your setup might be.
