Gear Oil Leaking Through Prop

i got a 2003 mercury 15hp 2 stroke. its leaking alot of gear oil through the prop. it is brown color. i pulled the prop and their was fishing line behind it so is it my prop shaft seals? also i noticed there wasnt an o-ring in the back of the shaft. i already drained and refilled the LU. is there supposed to be a seal in front and behind the thrust washer? pics would help. thanks

yes there are seals in there. likely were cut by the fishing wire.

time to reseal it before your gears get wasted by water in the gear lube.

dont run it till you re seal it.

can i replace the seals just by taking the prop off or do i have to take the carrier bearing out too? what about the o ring in the back? in the diagram of my lower unit it shows the seals and o-ring infront of the carrier bearing.
