Gear oil

I have 1986 Force 125 OB. End of this summer while driving engine, it just stopped like it ran out of gas.

Come to find out, the gear oil lower leg must have leaked out through a seal that gave out. After I refilled the oil, she won't start, won't even turn. How screwed am I?

Did the gears seize? Do I have to buy a new used lower leg? Can I salvage this one? I need to winterize her as I'm in N.E. area but can't get her going.

I've been good to her over the years, now I feel like I've killed her.

Any words of wisdom?

Thanks.

Re: Gear oil

You're probably going to change the impeller anyway, so might as well put the lower unit on a bench and go through it. A manual and some tools will help keep cabin fever at bay.

Re: Gear oil

more than likely you lost a bearing first ,then killed the gears, but until you pull it apart you won't know for sure , just wag's[ wild *** guess]. Get your manual out and tear her down, keep us posted on your progress.
