I recently got a pontoon with a 84 115. Is the gear ratio in this thing 2:1?

Also as far as 2 strokes, besides changing the plugs, what all should be done as far as a tune up.

Re: Gear Ratio and Tune Up Info

I don't know about the gear ratio, smoedog, but here is my list for routine maintenance, "tune up", of any outboard. It includes some stuff that is not mentioned in your Service Manual.

Decarb.
Check compression. All cylinders should be within 10-15% of each other.
Clean and gap plugs. Replace only if they cannot be cleaned.
Disconnect and clean all connectors for battery and starter cables.
Replace impeller every 2 years.
Perform link 'n' synch by the book.
Drain and refill gearcase.

It is very common to waste money fixing stuff that ain't broke. One exception is the impeller;always replace it before it fails.
Do not mess with carbs unless they are not working.
Replacing good spark plugs is wasteful. Cleaning and gapping is quite simple.

It runs great. Before I went out I hooked up muffs and tried starting it and flooded it. Not sure on proper procedure with the fast idle lever and choke button.

But on the lake it fires on first crank
