Any advice on if it is ok to reuse this gearcase head assembly on my 1975 Evinrude 25? I am doing a complete reseal of gearcase now. I see new ones are very expensive and there a couple of used ones on eBay. This one I have has little radial clearance to the prop shaft so the bushing is in good shape. Need some advice. The seal in this one was extended past the worn housing by about 0.10 inches.

Also there was also a washer between this assembly and the drive pin that I do not see in the service book. Doesn't look like it belongs there.

if the bearing area of the bushing is smooth and the new seal holds up under a pressure/vacuum test, I'd use it...looks like the prop was forced back into at some point and maybe someone put a washer on the shaft to help prevent this in the future, or the washer could serve as something to cut fishing line to keep it from cutting into the seal

That bearing housing is chewed up on the outer end from something being in there that shouldn't have been. Possibly a busted drive pin?? Anyhoo, if the seal fits tightly, go ahead and use it.

That washer sounds like it was the stainless steel fish line / weed guard that originally was pressed into the outer end of the bearing housing. Obviously, it isn't going to press in there any more. Discard it. Don't leave it in there rattling around loose.

Here are some photos of the washer. Does look like it was capping off the seal based on the outside diameter. The drive pin was bent so I am replacing the drive pin. I found some minor damage on the end of the gear case as well so it makes sense something got caught there or the drive pin had sheared at some point. The props a bit beat up and looking over the slots that engage the drive pin they are worn in drive direction as well. I think F_R is right something broke and made quite a few passes before it made clearance and found its way.

Thanks
