My 3.0/alpha one gen 2 clicks alot with muffs on going into forward. It won't clunk into gear until ur a tad past the detent.
The engine starts to rev before gear is in also making it harder. I've adjusted it to 6" three times

Other problem: today I went to start it on muffs and my intermittent no crank happened. I pushed reset button but didnt reset, I had to play with it, do u think that is why the breaker is tripping? Faulty breaker switch? Like I have to push /pull etc to get it to reset

donated by Chris;Mercruiser Alpha Shift cable adjustment - YouTube the no start maybe be microswitch in controller.if its cranking maybe shift switch faulty.disconnect one of the wires to it.should only activate whilst with load in lake etc and coming out of gear not going into gear.throttle adjustment also needs resetting as it requires more play.

It doesn't crank in a no start situation sorry! I did test with multimeter . During a no start I get power to the starter relay but the circuit breaker stops it from going past the relay. I have replaced relay already.

pointing towards bad grounds.check large plug.two person job to turn ignition key whist checking power to solenoid with multimeter.which solenoid was replaced as bad cabling is high on the list.bridge two large with a screwdriver to seeif its the solenoid or starter not getting a signal.a few other problems too regarding revving when engaging gear.

It is the circuit breaker that's tripping. I've already replaced the starter slave solenoid. I tested power and with key being turned I get power all the way to the slave solenoid but it stops there because its wired to the circuit breaker

I'm gonna readjust it today, ill push in on the cable as somebody spins prop counter clockwise. Then make the barrel so it measures 6" from the hole at end of cable .

For the dead short, are there any common spots I can check?

It never dies when it's running, so I assume the breaker trips during ignition

Just had it out! No leaks and it shifts amazing! I adjusted the helm to engine shift cable

However a couple times taking off from a stop it felt like it was missing a little around 2k Rpms maybe? Once I passed that point it went away. Then later I tried it again and it wasn't missing anymore. What could that have been? Just everything seating ? Drive was serviced while I had it off
