Gears noise on Sterndrive

1986 mercruiser 3.0/140 HP, this morning after finish tuneup I let engine idle for few minutes.
Is normal to me when I shift to forward it makes a little noise I guess it's normal. Okay but this time I decide to shift on reverse to my surprise ~ engine cutoff ~ this is new never happened before.
Listen guys/gal's, okay
I override the cutoff switch to check the reverse shifting, very~very softly I continue moving on reverse when suddenly (I felt like every gear were out of place) I did stop there and that's all with the reverse shift. Now after few minutes thinking 🤔 the horrible noice coming from the drive I decide to start engine on and check the forward shift to my surprise it's working fine. Happy for that. So after cutoff switch back to normal when I shift to reverse engine cutoff again.

Okay, my questions are:
What happened to my Sterndrive all the suddenly the drive change.

What steps I need to follow to investigate this.
And to correct it.
Hopefully nothing dad happens.

I will appreciate it any help!!!
Thanks 🙏

the lube is on the cutoff switch module .. then the switch.. is moved it rev/fwd ..
also the cable to the out drive can be a wear issue ..

Watch the first video in the list he sent, adjust as needed.
typically on an older one when it dies shifting into gear your lower shift cable is bad or something in the linkage in bell housing is hung up…

watch shift interrupt it should not engage when shifting into gear only out of gear… if it does engage something most likely worn shift cable is dragging taking too much force to shift.
and yes on an alpha with a dog clutch it will make a noticeable clunk going into gear. Need to shift firmly and quickly don’t baby it Otherwise it drags and grinds more… quick clunk into gear
