My neighbor up at Lake Tahoe put out some fake coyotes to keep the geese off his lawn. I guess they don't work. I thought it looked pretty funny and decided to share it with you guys.

Maybe an animated/mechanical coyote would work better....Saw on TV the other night some Wildlife Officers had put out animated/mechanical deer to catch night hunters and poachers!...Battery operated deer moved their heads, ears and tails...made 'em look awful real!....they caught some night hunters....set that deer out in a pasture near a road at night...was just more than a good 'ol boy with a rifle could resist!...;)

We've got a company here that uses dogs to chase the geese away. They seem to have a lot of repeat businesss. I get a kick out of people that can't figure out that removing the food source removes the unwanted guests. All animals will take some risk when the food source is plentiful.

Met a guy in a local bbq joint who has a dozen australian sheep herding dogs. He has a county contract to run the dogs at three parks and a golf course to deter geese from setting up nests and becoming resident. He does it six days a week at sunrise and sunset.

Our local school had a goose problem (real geese) and they put up black silhouette plywood cutouts of dogs and placed them around the athletic fields and it seems to have worked, I don't hear much about the geese any more. They've had them for several years now. Maybe our geese are dumber than yours.

They are a problem here at work too, so a company comes out 2 times a week and sprays the grass with a product that makes it taste bad. It worked for about 2 days then the geese came back. Bad news for the geese family though, they got run over by a car using the 3 lane road in front. These darn things would cross this road in mid day traffic, and take their sweet time doing so. That little retention pond in front just attrracts them like crazy.

Re: Geese Deterrent

A town near me caught a bunch of grief the way they handled their geese problem around their small lake/resivoir. Back in 07, the town of Nitro paid the Dept. of Agriculture to capture about 100 geese that liked to hang around the lake. They then put the geese in boxes and suffocated them. A bunch of folks got their feathers ruffled over that situation. Pun intended. LOL
