To format a 2 Terabyte Hard Drive. Goodness if I knew then what I know now, I would have waited until we were going on vacation! It might be done by time we got back!

Duh, Nice.
Are you going to divide it up, or just run it as one drive?

LOL

Learned that with my 1T primary, so when I installed my 2T as a 2nd, I waited till evening, then went to bed.

Oh, in reality, I knew it was going to be a long time, I was just moaning a bit last night, what happened is I trashed the MBR on this drive and was working on getting back up and operational. This will the one partition.

I just installed 2 2TB drives in my Synology NAS. Didn't seem that long.

Re: Geeze, it takes a long time...

last one i formated i used the /q command and was done in a few minutes

Didn't work, tried it, the Master Boot Record was destroyed on this drive, so I had to take it all the way back to the beginning and start over, I finally got another drive in the machine and had to pull this one, drop in an enclosure and redo the whole drive, just like we had to do in the old days.

i can not remember if i had to format my ssd drive. i know i had to move data and partions before i could do a drive to drive transfer that was a nightmare as i never got a windows disk and i hate to move a partion on a live drive.

I still had to format them. They were bare drives.

I can't remember the last time I had to format an off the shelf drive. I only had to do this one because I screwed it up.

You may be right. I installed 2 in a Raid configuration. I thought for sure I had to reformat but maybe not.

Bruce,

Most drives now a days have the MBR and such set up on them, there is no reason to do low level formatting and such on them, normally you just plug them in and go from there.
