I seem to have got some spots on the gelcoat with poly resin. The surface of the gelcoat still needs to be cut and buffed. What should i use to take the resin off without getting to deep into the gelcoat?

Re: gelcoat cleanup

I don't know if that's even possible. In my limited experience, new gelcoat is very sensitive to solvents, esp. acetone. Your best bet is probably block sanding it off, repairing the gelcoat.

It is not new gelcoat it is 34 years old but the paint and hull are in great shape. I just don't want to cut to deep into the gelcoat as I bring it back to new.

Re: gelcoat cleanup

Sorry, I assumed by the "needs to be cut and buffed" that it was a new surface. You could try to chip the resin off with a plastic scraper/putty knife, but if it has a good grip, careful block sanding is what I would do...

Thanks for the help. I will see how easily it will chip of the surface.
