Gelcoat over Marine Tex - Color? - 1991 Crownline Bowrider

I am pretty new to boating. I have a 1991 Crownline Bowrider. The top perimeter of the boat has several nicks that I filled with Marine Tex White (biggest nick about 0.5" diameter). Although the Marine-Tex filled nicely, the bright white really stands out. Internet search suggests Crownline between 1992 to 2015 uses Moonstone color gelcoat. Now I have a very hard bright white repair! I can't find any reference to 1991 models.
? With careful surface prep of the Marine Tex, will the Gelcoat adhere?
? Did 1991 Crownline models use Moonstone colored gelcoat? If not, any suggestions?

Typically folks will say you can't gelcoat over epoxy; in doing some research and trying it myself you shouldn't have any issues with minor repairs, if you prep the surface accordingly.

I would lightly sand/scuff the (must be fully cured) marine tex and some of the surrounding area, clean thoroughly with acetone, then apply the gelcoat as one would normally do so. On such a small surface area I wouldn't worry about bonding issues. Then when it's all cured just buff it and you'd never know the difference.

For the curious here's some information I more or less base my suggestion on: https://epoxyworks.com/index.php/app...at-over-epoxy/

doesnt matter if it is the correct color or not. the gel on your boat has faded for the past 28 years. new gel of the correct catalog color will stand out like a sore thumb.

you can try to custom match the color, however it will fade at different rates than the rest of the boat.

only good way to do it is to re-do the whole boat if you dont want to see the repairs.

thanks. I will stay with the Marine Tex bright white. After all, it is a 28 year old boat. Thank you Scott for the sober comments.

I'd say to rub some dirt and a tiny tiny bit of grease on the Marine tex. to lessen the bright white and blend to surrounding area. OR leave it alone and in a few weeks it WILL self blend a bit.
