I have what I believe is oxidation on my 1987 Cobia's gelcoat. Is there anything that can be done?

Re: Gelcoat Problem

Depends on the severity - Use the search function for these boards and you'll find all kinds of advice. Basically, a good buffer in the hands of an experienced person, with the right compound and cutting pad may be able to bring it back.

Even severe oxidation can be wetsanded out and buffed back as long as there is no metal flake in the gelcoat. Check the Boat Building/Projects forum for different methods and pics of results. Some of the guys have had excellent results using no buffer at all.

Re: Gelcoat Problem

Had to wet sand mine by hand, and mine has metal flake. The result was well worth the effort.
