Gen 1 350 mpi 99’ block compatibility

Hi guys.
So a fella I know needs another block to solve an issue where his currently suffered from the casting on his block where starter mounts, has failed. It’s a vortec 99 early mpi 350. Does he need another vortec block or will earlier blocks take all his top end gear and all that ?

It would be best to find a 1996 or newer vortec because of where bolt holes are. For the most part only the head changed, but keeping vortec, you don't have to worry about other things
