Anyone have the spec for doing a seawater pump flow test for gen 2, 1.62 ratio,m/c leg mounted raw water pump?5.0 litre engine. Need to test/troubleshoot for overheating tomorrow ,will likely replace impellor or whole pump, would like to have a baseline to compare (before and after) flows to.

Re: gen 2 pump flow test

Pump flow a bit above spec. When I did test I ran a garden hose off dock into risers to minimize chance of burning hoses, flappers etc. Not hard to rig up with pipe tee and some tape.No idea if that is necessary, seemed like a good idea at the time.
Overheat condition occurred immediately upon installing new full closed cooling system. Had been worried abt this systems capabilty to provide adequate cooling even tho supplier(San JUan)said gen2 pump provides plenty of flow. Also a factor was engine is a few (8) years old although mostly I think in fresh water.I did clean out manifolds and risers during instal process they seemed pretty good.
Assumed the worst.Need new pump,new manifolds,etc etc.
Anyhow after confirming pump flow ok,removed thermostat, flushed out coolant several times put back together w/o thermostat and it did fine ran really cold.Made a 2 hour trip, today I flushed system again, tested thermostat in wifes saucepan ok ,replaced therm and all is well.Runs 180 on gauge will confirm temps with gun tomorrow.
