So I'm trying to put a gen 6 502 block in my 91 boat. Not sure if that makes mine a gen 4 or 5..... The only issue I'm having is the oil cooler lines are different. Can I run the boat without an oil cooler? Or buy an adapter to convert it some how? Just swap out the lines with the newer gen 6 set??? Thanks for any help!

The 1st pic looks like a oil thermostat and not a cooler. What was the original motor serial number?

The 2nd pic looks lake just a cover, does it have 2 oil lines on it?

Yeah the first pic has the big fittings for oil lines and oil temp. The second pic is the gen 6 that does not have the big oil fittings. And no fittings in second pic that is just a shut off plate no holes in it

The oil filter connection should be the same for both blocks. The filter unit can be taken off and moved with the rest of the stuff.

Don't leave the shut off plate on the block, you need a filter, and the 502 needs an oil cooler
