I lived there twice (Well stationed there) during my career in the Army. I really enjoyed it and it was a humbling experience. During the Bi-centennial I was invloved in many activities when later that evening I was out at a bar... the bar owner told me that the bar building I was in was 225 years old!

As far as tracking down family records it can be tough. A great deal of documents were lost in WWII.

Great country I would encourage the visit. It's about as big as the state of Oregon with about 1/3d the population of the USA!

We visited Germany back in 2000. It is a wonderful country with a lot to offer the traveler.

Stay in B&B's and you can save money and have a better time. Europe on a budget

We followed the guidelins that Rick Steves explains in his books and traveled well and economically.

Go with an open mind and a smile. We found almost everyone to be pleasent and helpfull if you made an effort to be polite.

The towns of Baccarat and Rothenburg are amazing.

I was in germany (U.S.Army) for a year back in the 80's, it was nice. The 2 things I liked the most were doppleboch(sp) beer and bratwurst! And the women were fun too!

The Germans were great. Visited on a motorcyle in 1970. They are very much like us and they have great food and beer

If you read the book, 'Band of Brothers', the GI's identified best with the Germans out of all the countries that they had been in/though during the war.

Now all they need to do is get rid of their Socialist Government.
