General question about Merc TILT wiring

I am installing the wiring to my control for my 1990 90hp mercury with a Commander 2000 control box. I notice in the diagram of the Merc Manual that the power for the tilt switch at the control box comes directly from the hot wire at the engine. This means the tilt circuit will have power anytime the engine does. This also bypasses the Ignition switch. It would seem to me that you would want the tilt circuit hot only when the key is on. Is it normal to have the tilt work regardless of the ignition switch? Is there a problem with wiring power from the switch rather than having it hot all the time?

I posted this here because it is a general question. Are all boats wired so the tilt works all the time?

That's the way mine is wired also. I think all outboards are.

Do you not raise and lower it occasionally out in the driveway? Do you want to have to climb up in your boat to turn on the key? What is the downside to having the circuit hot at all times?

All O/Bs have the tilt/trim hot whenever there is power to the motor. Just the way it is...

Re: General question about Merc TILT wiring

Ok, no problem, I just wanted to know if there was a reason for it being wired that way that I was missing. I have everything on a main batt switch anyway so I can kill it from there if need be.
thx

Ayuh,.. On the I/Os, the trim pump is wired Directly to the battery, or to the Battery wire on the starter...

Always Hot...
