Many thanks for the suggestion that I get a hand impact tool.....2 raps and the screws were loosened,,,,,no way I could turn 'em by hand.....
OK....Generally, before I get too far into the project (replacing spaghetti seal and others that need it,,,,
I ordered a gear case seal kit and have it at hand.
I have a tube of 3M 847.
I have drained the lower unit oil out of the unit.
I have the unit upside down and have taken the prop off and taken the screws out of the gear case....(the ones that hold the cover on....
The drive shaft is still in the lower unit....it's taped up so it couldn't fall out when I turned the unit upside down...I don't why I did that..I just wanted to see what was going on inside the gear case before I fooled with it....
But the cover is stuck....and I wanted to ask a few questions.
1.) can I give the case a sharp rap (careful) to dislodge the cover?...or is there something holding it...?
2.) What is the screw on the side of the fin..(not the 2 oil level and/or fill screws)?
Any other suggestions?
Thanks
