My hunting camp has a MultiQuip 5500 watt generator that I just rebuilt the engine on. After reassembly and running engine for a breakin period i wanted to test the generator. I understand that when a generator like this is taken apart and put back together the generator has to be re-excited ( for lack of a better term) for it to generate electricity. I did this and it worked fine. I hooked up a big shop fan and let it run for a while and ran several other things so it would have somewhat of a load on it. I shut it down and was leaving the shop when another camp memeber showed up the check the progress of the project. I cranked the machine and plugged the fan back in and it would not run....I had to re-excite the generator.

It has to be re-excited every time its shut down and restarted. Anyone have any insight on this?? BTW, its a brushless generator. If that matters. The only replacable part i see in the parts list is a rectifyer/surge suppressor.

Re: Generator Guru's

I found a tech support number for the MultiQuip folks abd gave them a call. What I found out was.....this is a self exciting generator and I had the harness hooked up wrong. They emailed me a copy of the wiring diagram and it took less that 5 minutes to have it genning proper!!
