I am looking to buy a 1989 Cruiser inc. It is a 29' with twin inboards. I have researched similar models and many have the generator option and A/C. I would very much like to install both on this boat. the question is.... being that it was an added option on the original plans and the power panel has generator listed on it, would it be an easy task to put the generator in?? I remember many years ago the car manufactures would leave the wiring harness for the options installed. Would that be true for this old boat?? Could the wiring harness already be there for the gen and A/C???

the model is the elegante 2960, cruiser yatchs.

Thanks in advance

Re: Generator- installing

A marine genset is a complex self contained unit

Remenber it is in the engine area and has to have all the same saftey items as the boats motors becasue it is in and enclosed space with possable gas fumes

They are water cooled and require a through hull fitting for the water in as well as one for the exaust out

If you google "gasoline marine genset installer" many of the manuals can be read online and give you a better idea of what is involved

Re: Generator- installing

Thanks guys, i just emailed Cruisers to see if they have a kit available. I would probably have my marine mechanic do the job. I would not feel comfortable messing with gas, electric and exhaust and holes in hull. tooooo many things to worry about...

most likely pre-wired for the genset. but that's the easy part. as stated, the plumbing would be the hardest.

Sadly, I just read of the death of a retired Air Guard Brigadier General from Nevada. Cause of death : Carbon Monoxide poisoning from the gen set on his boat. Be careful.
