Re: Generator old 1960 Johnny?
Some here use an early 60's 3 terminal Ford generator regulator rather than the OMC one. I've seen one post where Iboats member Schematic refers to a superior Chrysler sealed electronic regulator, but I don't know which cars it was in or it's part number. An alternator regulator (very common) will not work, it's a completely different thing.
As for the wiring of it, that's quite simple: The 'A' terminal on the gen goes to the 'ARM' terminal on the regulator. The 'F' terminal goes to the 'FLD' terminal on the regulator via a 4 amp fuse. The 'BAT' terminal on the regulator connects to the positive battery post via a 20 amp fuse (and an ammeter if you wish). The regulator's case must be grounded to the negative battery terminal.
The generator only supplys 10 amps max (at WOT), so it's not the greatest thing ever.
Iboats memeber aarero used GP Sorensen part #VR203 on his generator. He notes that he 'flashed' it by momentarily connecting the 'FLD' terminal to the 'BAT' terminal with 'F' lead disconnected, as per Sorensen's reccomendation. This is different from the OMC method of jumpering to the 'ARM' terminal.

Good luck!
