Wanting to hard wire my 30amp breaker panel form the shore power and not sure which would be best. Looking at a 3000 watt invertor and probably 2 or 4 6 volt batteries. Should I upgrade the 55amp alternator? or just add a good external regulator? Other than usual stuff on the boat will be using 13" tv/vcr, small microwave, refridgerator, pressure water pump, and if possible hot water and 7,000btu air conditioner. She is Bayliner 2355. Any ideas???

Re: generator vs. invertor

If your going with the A/C and hot water then a generator is the only way to fly... Otherwise, the inverter would be ok with a serious battery like an 8D size and a real good charging set up...

I'd look into a Balmar hi amperage alternator and regulator combo if going the inverter route...

I would have to agree with snapperbait on this one.
I'm not sure if an inverter can handle the start up on the A/C compressor.
