Hello!

Just when I got used to the ins and outs of outboards, I switched to a newer I/O. I just sold my 72 johnson ob and upgraded to an 82 I/O. The outdrive is the original 898 merc and the engine is new as of 03 -- a 350 V8 merc. There's also a newer 4 barrel edelbrock carb on the thing. I'm pushing a 19 foot Celebrity, on the heavy side about 2.6k. I believe the pitch on my prop is a 19. The guy I bought it from just got it "unwinterized" so most of the nessecities have been taken care of there. The stuff is running great, and I'd prefer to keep it this way. I've only been boating for 2 years now.

1. How often is there a need to change the oil? I assume this new type of motor is much like a car/truck motor. What sort of oil will I be using? Are there other routine fluid changes that need to happen every so many hours?

2. Where could I find other info on PM's to do regularly? I'm assuming there's quite a bit more involved with an I/O. Is there a sticky or something else that can "crashcoarse" me? Obviously a shop manual is a must, right?

3. Blower motor? What's it look like and how much are they to replace? The guy that sold me the boat said that it was going in and out on him last year. I'd like to save myself the time in not exploding my boat.

Any help on these, I would appreicate it! Thanks!

The OEM service manual has maintenance items and schedules. Here is a link to the 2001 owners manual, use the schedule and the information as general information, and the OEM service manuals for specific.

Other things that should be done are in a couple of posts I have posted in the past.

Read them both, they work hand in hand.

As far as your blower, turn it on and follow the sound. There are all kinds of them. usually has 3 or 4" flexable dryer duct type hose on it.
