Geographical help please

My wife does genealogy, she is currently following some leads in the U.S.<br /><br />Could someone please explain what states these are:<br /><br />IL<br />MI<br />CT<br />CO<br />What is directly north of WI, and what is WI?<br /><br />Aldo

Wisconsin,....<br /><br />There's a Large Lake,... Superior,.... to the North of Wisconsin...........<br /><br />On the otherside of the Lake,.. In the Northwest Corner is Minnesota,.......<br /><br />But,........ It's Mostly Canada,.....On the otherside of the Pond,.......ay.......<br /><br /><br />Ooops,..... I Missed the U/P of Michigan........

No. The peninsula of Northern Michigan is North East of Wisconsin.

Michigan is NE,.... Northeast.....<br /><br />Minnesota is NW...........

Dun, the whole peninsula NE of Wisconsin being part of Michigan is a funny story. Basically MI and OH (Ohio) both wanted the city of Toledo (I have NO idea why!) so the federal government gave Toledo to Oh, and gave the Upper Peninsula to MI. Score one for MI!

Aldo- the UP is awesome.....just an extension of what northern wisconsin is. Lots of lakes.....but there arent any mountains.

No REAL mountains in the UP of Michigan, but big enough to give you some excellent skiing.<br /><br />Upper Michigan is very isolated, alot bigger than it looks, a few cities scattered on the shorelines, and not much but water and trees in between. And some iron mines. Very few people.<br /><br />"Lake Superior never gives up her dead..."<br />The water is so cold, that dead bodies don't decompose and "gas up", so they sink and never float to the surface. It is a great lake, but dang cold.

I'm surprised that there is no mountains, the pic that tommays posted clearly shows 'darker' topographical features - mountains?<br /><br />Whaley, have a close look at that pic - there are hundreds of lakes, these boys are spoilt .
