That is more than my inflatable, my motor, all accessories (neoprene PFD's, anchor, etc.), plus my private launch & storage, and a whole summers worth of gasoline cost, even when you divide it by two!:eek::eek::eek::eek:

No I didn't go this year, I haven't been for many years, the cost here are just out of this world. Crazy!

This is the cost from a friend & his wife, who went with his parents who flew over from the States. They said that it would be the last trip they would ever make to see them. In the future they would have to come home if they want to visit.

Wholly CARP!

Was that the Oktoberfest in Munich? I've always wanted to go to that one, but at those prices, I may have to wait for my lottery winnings to materialize. (not holding my breath)

My wife and I have been going to the Oktoberfest in Torrance, Ca. every year since we've been married (27 years now) and while it seems a bit pricey to me ($5.00 admission, $10.00/liter beer, $9.95 bratwurst, saurkraut and potato salad + silly souvenirs) it's practically free when compared to the prices you mention.

Still and all though, it's always a lot of fun and well worth it.

WOW.
I don't keep up with the high finances of the world.
But I heard the US dollar has depreciated. I assume this has something to do with it?

Yes, Oktoberfest in Munich.

With train tickets from and back to Frankfurt, the two day trip it cost them over $4000 for 4 people.

Although the dollar is really low, it hurts just as much if you live in Euros.

Germans used to pay OK salaries, but you saw very little of it because the mandatory socialist cost and taxes ate most of you check up before you got it. Now they just released a new study that said the average income here had been rolled back to what it was 20 years ago, yet inflation has continued to climb year for year. It really sucks to live here. You feel like you are in the bleachers, just watching live go by.

No one can afford to take part anymore. We went to France last year and tried to find normal (for us) hotels rooms. $500+ a night per person for a cheap room. They were all empty, but we couldn't afford them. Tried student barrack hotels (big rooms, bunk beds), couldn't get in. Ended up staying at the Salvation Army house, 85 Euros a night, per person. Horrible, never again.

Americans stationed here, even if the have a very high rank, or DOD, working tax free, can hardly afford to leave the base now a days.

Now that looks fun!!!! :D

Lot's of fun! And the total cost was less than the price of a day at the lake.

We usually go on Sundays because it's "Family Day" and children are allowed into the tent, but for a really wild time, Fridays and Saturdays are for 21 and over. The place is PACKED with mostly drunken college students and can get pretty crazy.

Until sanity returns to the economy, I think I'll stick with local fare.

It's funny that I, as a American living in Germany, would look at Oktoberfest in America, and get home sick. :( I think German Festivals in the States, are now more fun, than German Festivals in Germany.

P.S. Great looking family! :)

Re: German Oktoberfest

We always do the oktoberfest in La Crosse Wisconsin. its 10 day affair. and always lots of fun. we usally do the first 3 days. i dont think the cost is too bad. we always stay with my cousin so lodging is free. its about a 3 hour drive for us but at 32 miles to the gallon its not really to bad. I think a beer there for domestic is 250 a can. and the imports or specialtys are 5 bucks. i stuck with miller 64. food is also pretty reasonable and there is always a couple good bands playing. its always alot of fun. have met some great people that we only see at that time of the year. cant wait to go again next year.
