I have just bought an electric start Yamaha 8 HP for my sailboat - seems to be a great motor. I want to get the portable fuel tank housed inside one of the cockpit lockers. Any suggestions on how to feed the fuel line and battery cable into the lockers in a clean manner. Crushing them under the lids/seats isn't making it. I need to drill a hole somewhere and feed them through but what do I seal the hole with? Some kind of rubber grommet? Where would I get such a beast? I'm sure others have been confronted with this - what did you do?

Large plastic thru-hull (for bilge pumps) fittings work good for feeding fuel lines and battery cables thru..

Just be careful having a portable fuel tank in an enclosed locker... Make sure the locker is well ventelated and perhaps locate the battery in another locker well away from the fuel tank...

I'd use PVC plastic pipe - Home Depot - Lowe's

Seal around the outside of the pipe with marine silicone. Can do the same around the hoses/cables coming thru the inside of the pipe.

Venting the Compartment.
Side mount thru hull vent hardware is available at most boating supply stores which would enable you to vent the compartment or vent hose up the side and out thru the hull.

Would be a very good idea to install a blower to exhaust the funes gathered in the compartment.

You could actually use the same pvc tube that is accessing the fuel tank compartment as the suckTION tube connection if you installed a large enough tube. (spelling?)

just some ideas.

PS:
Don't look in Ripley's Believe it or Not Book under 'Greatest Ideas on the World' for my name cuz they haven't listed me yet.

just my 1 1/2 cents worth. :)
