Hey guys - I have a 83 Searay 25' with a Alpha I/O sterndrive Mercrusier 350 V8 engine. Just had the engine pulled and heads rebuilt due to valve issue, now mechanic tells me the gimbal ring is probably in rough shape needs to be replaced in the future?

Any idea how much will this cost (at $80 / hour). He didnt seem too enthusiastic and seemed to dodge that question. Im sure the engine would have to be re-pulled?

Should he have caught this before thowing everything back together?

Also, anyone know of any good sales on liquor?

Re: Getting engine work done - now Gimbal Ring

A friend got a quote here when labor was $74/hr and the price quote was $2000.
Yes he should have noticed it. But is it really worn out, or is he just trying to plan the seed for later? If it was BAD, he shouldn't have continued with the other work until he called you and told you about it.
If it has anything to do with the steering shaft and such, that can be tightened for lots less money. If that's what it is, he should be recommending that you do that first.
