Getting grass or rope wrap around my propeller shaft

I have a Mercury 225 EFI outboard with a Mercury Trophy 25 pitch 4 blade prop. My problem is the hub diameter of my prop is smaller than the gearcase opening. So needless to say when I am fishing in weeds and idling around in the weeds' weeds will wrap around the prop shaft and when I try to get up on plane sometimes the excess weeds won't let me very easy. So I stop the engine and try to clean out the weeds. Sometimes the weeds will stick out thru the exhaust vent holes on my prop. I actually called Mercury and they said I should buy a wider prop hub to fill gap. Right now I don't have the money to buy a prop. I have been reading about a spacer or ring that will fit between prop hub and gearcase opening to fill in the gap so weeds will not wrap around as much. Anyone have any ideas or part number I can try and solve this problem?

How about putting the engine in reverse and jazzing the throttle every now and then? No higher performance prop is going to be weedless.

Ayuh,.... Sounds like ya got the wrong prop on it,....

It must ventilate, badly, even without weeds,.....

With the Right prop, a quick burst of reverse will clear the weeds,....
