getting hot in here

My 78 johnson 85hp ran well for about 15 naughtical miles, started to get hot on the way in. docked it, had lunch for 45 min. went 100 yds and it started to over heat. hooked to muffs water pump was working. should I consider changing the thermostat and waterpump?

what rpms are you running at WOT? too low and it will lug and overheat.

When the engine overheated, did you lift the engine up to check to see if you ran over something-like a plastic bag?
