I have just purchased a 14ft glass boat with a 50 HP 1975 Johnson.

After a weekend of fishing with 4 people in the boat, it is a bit too underpowered.

As the motor is in top condition I was wondering ways to boost up the performance a bit - I dont have heaps of cash to throw at it but was thinking perhaps if I was to fit some carbies of a 65 of a similar era it may help? - I know this is sometimes the differences between the smallewr HP motors.

Any suggestions?

Best way to get 70hp out of it is to buy a 70hp motor and sell yours. Some folk here will tell you how to improve things, however the cost could be the limiting factor.
Proper motor set up (height, trim and prop) and load distribution are big factors in performance.
Start with the free and cheap stuff first.
