i just Aquired A 18.5 Regal bowrider, The boat Is A 1986, Mercruiser 140, with alpha one combo. Seems to Run Nice and smooth before the winterization, am getting ready to un-winterize it soon, any tips, and thing to do before i launch. this will be my first boat. the previous owner was a friend of mine and we changed out the impeller , changed the drive oil, and engine oil, filters(fuel, oil), greased the gimble bearing. i will be boating mostly on the long island sound out of port jefferson ny. thanks in advance.

a tune up once ayear is cheap insurance<br />points plugs condenser rotor and cap also set timing and dwell

How Long has it been since Your Buddy Pulled the Drive,+ Inspected All that Stuff(Alignment, bellows condition,U-joints, etc.),+ Greased the inputshaft,+ coupler ???<br />How about the Prop Splines ??? How long has it been since They were Greased ???<br /><br />Most Manuals with devote a Whole Chapter to the Preventive Maintiance Things To Do..........<br /><br />You Really Need to Own 1........It'll Save you 1000 times it's purchase price..... And, Makes Good Reading..... :D

bondo, been at least three years since he replaced the bellows, and pulled the outdrive & Greased the inputshaft,+ coupler

That, is a yearly maintenance item. Along with oil changes, gear lube change, fuel & oil filter change. The alignment also needs to be checked yearly unless you like to spend $350 plus for a new coupler and have to pull the engine to replace it.<br /><br />Here's a link to the Mercruiser manual, just run your cursor over the pages to find all the links.<br />There is more to a drive than grease and oil.<br /><br /> Merc Service Manual
