getting ready to glass, bulkhead timing

i have to seal a few more bulkheads...i'm going with bulkheads instead of notching my new stringers....and am thinking ahead to glassing this stuff in.

what are the opinions on glassing the stringers then bedding bulkheads and glassing those to the stringers.

or, bed the bulkheads first and glass it all as 1?

i'm thinking that i'd get the stringers better if i glassed them by themselves first before restricting my access more by adding the bulkheads. but, i don't want to weaken my job if that's the case.

actually salty i dont think it matters what you do first.....

just as long as the whole sha bang is solid....

just do it so you can get at it...

and i like the idea of bulkheads instead of strapping the strings togeather.

good luck

Re: getting ready to glass, bulkhead timing

i ve been thinkin bout this a little more...

it will be stronger if you do it all at once...

but the stregnth needed on the bulkhead joint isnt very much...thats why they just notched them.....(thats a major spot for rot to start)

there isnt very much latitudenal force on the hull...or twisting....even in tight turns.

so the bulkhead joint is not that crucial to the structure of the hull/frame....

obviously the strings would be a solid peice from bow to stern..

the only thing i would suggest is if you bed them after the strings are glassed...just rough up the glass and clean with acetone really well.....

this will be a mechanical joint but still more than strong for what you need.

so in short.....again....i dont think it really matters what way you do it

cheers

Re: getting ready to glass, bulkhead timing

that's pretty much what i was thinking. the bulkheads are really to support the ends of the sheets of ply and also to help keep the stringers apart, keep the frame tight.

i fast-forwarded in my mind to trying to screw both ends of 2 sheets of ply into the 3/4" bulkheads and just doubled them to 1 1/2", i'll skip on that fun later.

next anxiety...getting the engine height correct, straight inboard...

thanks again!
