Looking for help/ suggestions before I start my '77 85 hp Mariner for the first time. I have already changed the gear oil and the impeller was replaced last year via the previous owner (per invoice from dealer). Is there anyrthing else I should do before the big day?

Also where will this thing **** from when started? I keep looking for a hole but I cant find one...

Thanks
Jeff

Does anyone have any input they would like to share?

Also I would like to add a temp gauge but I'm not sure what wire to splice into. The SN is 4732051. It a '77 Mariner 85 hp.

Jeff, Water will exit the grates above th antiventilation plate, and thru the prop. The telltale outlet is just above the midsection on the starboard side.

Use fresh fuel mixed at a 50::1 ratio. That motor has no thermostat. A water pressure gauge is a better idea, than a temp gauge.

Thanks Chris! Does a water pressure gauge require a electrical signal? Or just a hose? Also where would I make the connection on the motor? I guess it really isn't too critical to have one at first, as long as water is flowing I should be fine? I would imagine that it would be a good indicator for when the pump is going.

The only electrical on the water pressure gauge is for the light on the gauge for night use.

On those inline 6s we tee the gauge into the telltale line. Some motors may have an unused port on the water jacket cover on the head. That is a better place, if you have one. Look between plugs 2 and 3 or 3 and 4 for the plug.
