I know this must seem a bit silly but does antbody know how to disconnect the gear shift shaft on a Johnno 1983 60 twin? I've got all the bolts out, put it in reverse, dropped it a couple of inches and was expecting to see a grub screw thingy like on my 15, but I can't see anything. I've lifted a rubber boot but no joy and I can't beleive that I have to disconnect it from the top under all that carburettor complexity. Please help! The mackeral are running but my boat isn't!!

Cheers

ozbower

Yep....the shift rod is connected to the linkage in the upper part (lower engine pan) of the engine. Shift into forward. Then from the port side of the engine, look below and just to the rear of the lower carb. You will see the shift lever....it's a triangular looking piece. You will see the top of the shift rod which is flat on the end and is held to the shift lever slot by a screw. A long extension with a universal joint and 3/8 socket can be used to get back in there to remove the pin screw. A 1/4" drive is good for this. Once the screw is removed, the lower unit will slide off.

Hey OBJ you still there? I'm ready to put the foot back on but I'm wondering if I need to instant gasket any of the surfaces between the foot and the lower body? There was no sign of anything when I took it off...I know it doesn't seal perfectly as I had water coming out of the join before I took it off when I had the muffs on.

Re: Getting the foot off

Nothing is needed between those 2 surfaces and water coming out there is no problem either
