I was just pricing airline tickets, to get my "New Sons", Keith and Kevin, to New York for the Holiday's.

It only cost me $70 each way a couple of weeks ago, when I went to Virginia to see them, and the airlines wanted $120 each way, when I priced them right after I got back.

Now I'm ready to book the flights, and they now want $145 each way!

Boy, do these giant companies know how to rip their customers off or what?

AARRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!

Hi mellow,

But that means it is going to cost me over $600 to get them here and back.

It's just that I wasn't planning on spending that much money.

Kids, a sure fire way to make a Dad...BROKE!

I thought my tax dollars built you a real nice AmTrak network up on the east coast.

Seems a few extra hours on the train would be worth not having to deal with the airports during the holidays. And the $ savings would be huge.

Or, just go pick them up in your boat.

Re: Getting the "New Kids" Home

Thanks for the advise guys, but first, I would never take AMTRAK anywhere...Guarenteed to get you there sometime, just not according to the schedule.

Thanks for those prices mellow, but I did some shopping on-line last night and booked the tickets on Delta Airlines, for $86 each way.

It just took a little shopping around to get it cheaper.

Now I just need to find cheap tickets to Broadway sometime during Christmas week!

Got to bring them to a Broadway show, first time in New York and all.

I'll find them!

Re: Getting the "New Kids" Home

Just a heads up guys (and gals). My wife used to work for an airline booking reservations. Her experience says to "BEWARE" when booking flights on a discount site or throught things like expedia.com. The reason being is that the discount site or expedia just became your travel agent. Any change to the flight, cancelation, etc. must be done with the booking agent (expedia). In many cases, it takes quite a while, sometimes days, to get your reservation (made throught expedia or others) to be booked in the airlines system. It takes even longer for them to get paid.

What I have done, is check expedia for the best prices, then go to that airlines website to actually book the flight. That way I will have no problems with the airline shoudl the need arrise to make a change and I know that I will get on the plane.

If you are 95% or better certain that you will not have a problem or need to make a change, then I guess the alternate agency sites are not a bad thing.

I am glad you got a good price, just know that the further out you can book a flight, the better price you will get (at least to a point). Most airlines will only book up to 3 or 4 months in advance at most.

Man is Broadway expensive!!!

Just paid $245 a ticket to see "The Producers"
with Mathew Broderick and Nathan Lane!

It just cost me $1000 for 4 tickets on Dec. 30th!

Guess thats just the price to see the best!?

Now I'm truely looking forward to the Holidays, now that I'm broke!

Broke in the wallet, rich in the heart. I can't think of a better way to spend the holidays. :)

I find it ironic that all three of your names begin with a "K".

P.S. Nathan Lane is a favorite of mine. :D

Hi LadyFish,

Yeah, I thought that too.

I am wondering if their mother did that deliberatly or not.

The kids haven't talked too much about their Mom yet, but I'm hoping to get some info when they come up to visit.

I'll have 6 days with them, instead of the 2 days I spent when I visited them, so hopefully, it will be easier to get that kind of info out of them, then.

aspeck,

Nice try, but your not going to get away with that one.

Besides, there are no more stray girlfriends out there, they are all accounted for now. :D LoL

Nuemanns and mellow,

Those airline tickets were a bargin compared to the theater tickets, but I guess that's what it cost to go to the hottest show on Broadway.

And they were not the most expensive tickets to that show, orchestra seating starts at $1000 per ticket!

And I can't remember the name of the theater off the top of my head right now.

I was in New York last spring, I saw URINETOWN and HAIRSPRAY both are great plays, but URINETOWN was the best play I ever saw.

Re: Getting the "New Kids" Home

Airline pricing is a mystery at best. I've been flying from the east to the west a lot, and flying kids from the west to the east a lot as well, and booking tickets is always an adventure.

I recall one time booking a flight from Seattle for my kids, and I could either pick them up in Toronto or Detroit. It was $200 cheaper to fly them to Toronto than Detroit, and the stupid plane stopped in Detroit. I asked the airline why I couldn't purchase a ticket to Toronto and just have them get off the plane in Detroit, and apparently you can't do that (and get your bags if you check them, at least)

Anyway, Toronto is a fun city compared to Detroit, anyway, so it worked out ok.

Good luck.

I never seen a broadway play, went to a yankees game,in fact I never even had a NEW bike but some of my fondest memories are times spent with my dad. Just something to think about. Merry Christmas to all.
