Its not amazing or anything, but I whipped up this simple solution to the kicker getting whipped around and flopping about. Its just a bracket that basically extends the pin so the motor has something to lock onto when tilted. The picture says it all. It is brainless to use, works very well, and took about an hour to do (I had to take the kicker off). Also, I redrilled and replaced the bolts that holds the kicker bracket together, there was a lot of slop. Now there is no slop, and the kicker does not move. No more worries of flopping kickers while underway in the rough...

Yeah, really neat and clean work there! Looks like OEM hardware. Start selling them on e-bay.

Very nice job. Makes my steel tube across the transom mount, fastened with bungee cords look stupid.

I'm heading out to the workshop now.

Re: Ghetto kicker saver

You want to talk about projects, I found a nasty old 18 ft Reinell (probably 80s) on a trailer for sale for $250 OBO. No windshield, very rough interior, and an OMC inboard. The engine, a 4 cylinder, was in pieces, rusting at a vigorous rate. No outdrive to be seen. Of course I thought to myself "I could make something of this". I actually drove away, it was just too brutal, even by my standards. The only saving grace was that it had a great deep V hull that would have made for a perfect center console conversion, but the floor was iffy. I am just fine with what I have.

Then, at another customers house, a guy had a late 60s Glastron cuddy, about 18 or 19 ft, in great shape other than oxidized gel and the usuall skanky growths. It was solid, had full canvas, full upholstry, but an 80 horse 'rude with lower unit issues. He is fixing the lower unit, and was thinking of selling it for $1200 or something. I should have offered him $800 as is, it would be a great lake fishing rig.

I have the itch for a project, but I want to come across the right deal, something useful. I was told about an aluminum hull cuddy style festering somewhere up north in a field, I may need to investigate that further.

Once you get started with Aluminum hulls,,,, you'll be hooked. I gave up termite bait, and tupperware boats after I got my first one.

Yeah, the thought of easily replaceable pressure treated ply floor panels and lighter overall weight sounds very appealing to me. In the end I just don't want to have to worry about water damage as much any more.
