I have a Volvo DPS outdrive. Numbers: 3868166/4112028616 stamped on the plate of the outdrive, and 3857974 stamped into the outdrive pivot housing. I need to know if i have to remove the engine in order to replace the gimbal bearing, or can i pull the bearing out with a slide hammer?

P.S. this boat has been a nightmare, please tell me i dont have to pull the engine.

if you need any more information, please let me know. It has a 454 engine, and it is in a chriscraft 258 concept.

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,... Gimbel bearings are changed through the transom, not from the motor side...

I wasnt sure. I have been trying to read up on everything. It seems like some of the Volvo outdrives you have to.

Thank-you.
I swear this boat hates me

What is the model number of the outdrive? You can't really look up any thing on the drive itself by just the serial number. On that tag where you found the serial number and spec number there should have been a model number DPS-__?__.. What are those last letters/numbers. Assuming it may be early enough, what is the full model or serial number of the engine. On some drives, you have to look parts up under the engine model number. (It also has a bunch of numbers and letters)

All the tag says is 3868166. It is not the original engine. For the lettering all it says is DP-S.
