Gimbal bearing mystery

I recently changed the gimbal bearing and being the curious sort I took my old bearing apart. The tolerance ring has a gap in it that aligns with a hole in the carrier which in turn aligns with the grease fitting on the housing. When I removed the bearing from the carrier I found a channel around the inside of the carrier and 2 small (paper clip diameter) holes in the outer race of the bearing that align with the channel. I guess my question is how can a sufficient amount of grease get into the actual bearing thru those 2 holes? You can pump grease all day long and it mostly comes oozing out between the carrier and the outer race but once you stop pumping there is no longer any pressure on the grease to force it into the race.
Yea I know, I sometimes think myself into a box sometimes.

Aren't the new gimbal bearings factory sealed?
Like most ball joints in our land vehicles.

No need to worry about greasing or grease impregnation.

My new one was sealed. No worries about lining up the hole with the grease fitting. No greasing needed at all.

That's what I understand Joe, I was able to get a greaseable one which is what I wanted, but after taking the old one apart, now I'm not so sure. I think it would be best to grease the bearing with the engine running so at least the grease could get worked into the bearing while under pressure from the gun.

yes best to grease while running, I idle mine and give it 5 or so pumps of grease

That's what I figured too, and probably nice slow pumps to give a bit of time to get thru those small holes. thanks for the tip.
