gimbal bearing????? not sure if there is one

hello all... my outdrive makes crazy noises so i took it off and the u-joints were rubbing on the housing..... the drive shaft coming out has alot of play in it and the bearing(maybe a seal) that i can see is gone bent and torn.... so how do i replace it???? and fix the play in the driveshaft>???

Ayuh,... Get a puller, yank that 1 out, 'n drive in a New gimbel bearing....

Volvo's of that vintage don't have gimbal bearings. There is a bearing (or two depending on engine and year) in the flywheel cover. They aren't to hard to replace once you get the engine out of the boat.

the engine is a 1986 aq225...... i got the seal off the back and the retaining ring behind it..... is there another bearing and do i need to pull the driveshaft out????

With the 270 outdrive, you have 2 bearings. You have to remove the engine, then remove the flywheel cover to replace the bearings and seal.
Problem you are about to run into is the fact that it went on so long that the ujoints where hitting the housing. The bearings probably also destroyed the surface they are pressed into in the flywheel cover. At that point you are going to need a new housing and shaft.

ok I got everything out and parts are here.... the question now is how do I align this thing or do I need to.....

Be sure to include what engine and drive you have and exactly what information you need.
Use this thread as a reference if you want, but if you don't read the whole thread, you won't understand what's going on.
