I am looking for some experience with these parts here. Alpha one - gen one

I have two types to chose from in a re-build for a transom assembly because I have two different rings. One ring has a fiber type of bushing and the other is a needle bearing type pared with a steel clevis pin. Which is the best to use. Either rings will work but the bushings are Proprietary to the respective rings. the manual says the older type is the needle bearing where the new one is fiber and seems weak to me paired with an aluminuim clevis pin. Is the older one better?

Any help would be great. Thanks.

Re: gimbal ring swivel bushing

All I've ever used are the fiber ones. Never had any problem at all with them. I would take the fiber over the needle bearing just because of the corrosion issues. Hardened steel bearing rollers will rust if you even THINK about moisture around them, much less let any water get past a leaking seal ......

Re: gimbal ring swivel bushing

Thanks 45.

The one I removed from my boat is the fiber kind and the bushing is ovaled really bad. The aluminum pin is pucked as well. I am going to try the other for now as I installed it today. I had it on hand so we will see. As long as it lasts me the summer. I didnt here back on my question in time so I pulled the trigger and installed it. I think the soft aluminum pin scared me the most.

I do appreciate your input and advice though. Hope this works out for the short term.
