I have a 2004 Four Winns with a Volvo Penta 5.7 GXI with the dp-sm drive.
I am getting a ticking noise when turning while under way. It is most noticeable at low speeds but I think I feel it when turning while moving along at a good clip. I have a few questions:

1. Is the gimble bearing the most likely culprit?
2. I have a quote from a local shop to replace the bearing and bellows for around $800.00. Is this a reasonable price for this work?
3. I am willing to attempt this myself. Is there any online information for the process?
4. If I do attempt this what special tools will I need?
5. How do I find the right bearings and bellows?

I hope this isn't to much for one thread. I appreciate your input.
Have a great day and Happy Boating.

P.S. Word is that the fishing at Lake Powell will be amazing this spring.:peace:

Could also be your u-joints so take a look at them when you take off your drive.

I have 2 DP-SM drives on the back of my Larson. When we first got it there was noise from the drives at slow speed while turning and I never really was able to figure out if it was the gimbal or the U-joints it went away once I greased them. Point being most people don't make that part of there yearly routine(or for some of us twice a year) That DP drive unit is so easy to take on and off I would start by pulling the unit and using a good marine grease, pump it in turn it by hand a few times and then pump more in
