Gimble bearing questions

How often should the gimble bearing be greased?

I replaced my engine over the winter, inspected the bearing and it was smooth-turning and nice and shiny. Greased it until grease started popping out of it.

Now I have about 50 hours on the boat (at least 50, maybe more, no hourmeter) and at 3000 RPM I get what I think is a bearing growl. Goes away at below 2800 or above 3200 rpm. Alignment was dead-on, checked it twice like santa claus.

I'm going to grease it up and see if the noise subsides over the weekend. Does it just need grease or is it beginning to fail? If I still get noise I'll be pulling the outdrive next week after work to check the bearing and u-joints. My u-joints are greasable and were thoroughly greased when I put the outdrive back on in April.

Thanks!

All the way down. No change if I tilt up a little or turn. Might have 100 hours on it already, or close to it. Been out just about every weekend and every night after work that I get the chance.

Greased it and the noise is completely gone. I'll add the bearing and u-joints to the winter maintenance plan, I have no idea how old either are. Hopefully it'll make the summer for me!
