I am getting ready to redo my transom, stringers, and of course floor. I have checked into a lot of products like CPS, Seacast, and even just replacing the wood with new and glassing the crap out of it. Now I just talked to a guy at the local marina who swears by Git Rot. He said it is half the work and as good if not better than anything else out there. Anybody have an opinion or better yet, any experience with this stuff? I would really like to know what you guys think! Thanks

Re: Git Rot

I have used Gitrot on a wooden piece that couldn't be readily replaced. It worked fine for me, but the piece was relatively small so I don't know how it would work on large areas.

Re: Git Rot

I used it once on a hull where the bilge area was badly rotted and it worked very well.I don't have the boat anymore so I can't give an update but I owned it for about 5 years after applying and it seemed to hold the rot in check well.
I found that the wood really soaks up the git rot so buy more than you think you need.I think it is very important to apply liberally so the wood is compltely saturated with it to the point where it will not soak in any further.
Good luck whichever way you go.

Re: Git Rot

Git-Rot is thinned epoxy. It's purpose is to soak into the wood and stop water saturation/rot. I've used it for it's stated purpose, and it seemed to stop the rot from spreading -- or at least slow it down. For work on a transom, though, you need both waterproofing and adhesion. I recommend West System epoxy, or an equivalent. The epoxy is expensive, but it sure isn't as expensive as Git-Rot in the quantities you need to do the job. You can also thin the epoxy, by the way -- best way is to heat it a little before application.
