Glassed three stringers in this weekend

This whole glassin' thing is taking longer than expected, but I am fine with it. I spent all morning yesterday doing the final acetone wipedown and pre cutting all mat for the six stringers. Finaly got glassin' at about one in the afternoon, and only got one stringer glassed in before my back had had enough. Stopped that whole thing at three and washed the truck and the Jeep, then went and fixed my sister's dryer.

Got up this morning, went out at 9:00, dragged the boat into the sun to soak up some sun and heat the overnight coldness out of the structure and hull. Waxed my truck while it was warming up, then glassed my brains out until three this afternoon. I only have three stringers glassed in, and my back had enough again. I'll glass a stringer a day this week after work until complete. Everything is going fine so far, I hope to have the stringers done and floor glassed in by next weekend. The floor will go fast, its those stringers that are a pain (literally) to do...

Yes indeed, stringers are a royal pain in the u-know-what as far as glasing goes... Been there, done that, and never again... :p

Just thank your lucky stars that you did'nt have to use at least 4 layers of 17oz bi-axial cloth and a couple layers of mat over 12 to 15 inch tall stringers like I had to do on my project boat... That was FUN!!! NOT!!!!

You're doing great work JasonJ... Keep it up... :)

Yeah, I think I'd eat my Glock before I would glass 15 inch stringers. My tallest is 10.5 inches, I am feeling better about it now. I am also thinking, as "fun" as this project is, I will be very glad when the glassing part is over. I may not paint it this year as well. I don't need to paint it, I just didn't want a tan center console, but I think I may have had enough suffering by the time I get to that, and I will want to actually use the thing this year. We'll see.....

OK Jason, I can't stand it anymore. It's finally getting warm enough to get back to work on my rebuild up here in Maine. Seeing your progress has given me the required motivation to begin sanding the bottom of the hull some more (not my favorite thing to do!).

Thanks, and your boat is lookin good!

My project.

Outonbizniz, I checked your project. I am envious of those wee little stringers. :)
Looks good so far. I glassed another stringer in today, I only have one left, one of the big ones, then it is floor time. At this point I am starting to wonder if I will have enough resin. I think I will, but it will be close. I bought eight gallons, and I have used roughly four so far.

outonbizniz,

nice boat! I am down next to portland and I am currently near the 2 month mark on my project boat- actually I built the entire thing from plans.

I dont know where I would be without an insulated garage with a propane heater!

Heres a pic-
Jons...I simply could not do what you have done. The idea of building from NOTHING but plans and wood seems past my abilities. It looks great!! Do you think you'll make your July 4th deadline?
