ok first post here so if this is in the wrong spot im sorry. so im looking at buying an older glastron carlson (not entirely sure of the exact model but it has ss 16 on front deck) ill be getting more info on the boat in the next few days. looking for any tips or advice about these boats that will help make the rebuild go smooth (er) lol new to these boats so any help is appreciated. basically heres my list to go through when tearing into it.

-pull floor and replace stringer, seat bases, remove old foam, lay down new plywood and glass over to strengthen
-reinforce transom (seems solid enough right now with the 70 on it but ill be planning on running up to a 150 on it)
-rebuild seats and reupholster everything
-sand and try to shine up the old paint/flake...try to anyways lol if not ill talk to a local guy about repainting completely
-replace gauges and add stereo and speakers
-possibly build a custom small wake tower to pull a tube or something

Boat is mainly just a project and will be used to cruise around to sand bars and hang out so like a said really just any advice on the project will be greatly appreciated, like what products/procedures to use for floor, sanding outside, etc

will try to upload a few pictures as it sits right now (kind of being used to drop stuff in behind a mechanics shop)

also what would be a good price to pay for something like this? just assuming the floor is trash but comes with the trailer that will need work (its only maybe a half mile from the house so thats a non issue) and the motor was running last year.

Welcome to iBoats! You're looking at approx. $3-5K and 2-300 hours of work. I'd offer $500 and see what happens. I wouldn't count on being able to restore the Flake Gelcoat, especially if it feels really rough to the touch. Keep us posted if you decide to complete the project.

thanks for the reply! from what ive looked up i was estimating about 2-4k so thats pretty close to what was expected. gelcoat isnt too rough but like i said i havent been around this type of boat (aluminum boats is where im comfortable) so i may have to drag it to the local boat painter and see if he can salvage it. is your estimate of 3-5 including repainting, flake, clear, ect? ive reupholstered a pontoon and an aluminum bass boat before so the upholstery i can save some money by doing myself. they may not have looked perfect but you couldnt tell me different because after 100 hours of pulling carpet and vinyl it is perfect to me lol

In this case, I'm assuming 16 means 16' so its on the smaller side, which helps with cost, but yea, its still going to be several thousand and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of man hours. That said, if you like the boat a lot, its worth it, cuz you will have a basically new boat when you are done.

You may consider checking out the Friscoboater channel on youtube. He did a restoration of a carlson CV-18, which looks very similar except it was a sterndrive.

With your skill set I'm pretty sure you could handle the sanding a painting of your boat.
