Hi

Having once posted a while back, my wee project classic glastron cvx16 is now coming together.
I’m aware there is a chap on here that knows his glastrons, but can’t remember who.
Would love to hear from him and others on what kind of performance I should expect from the wee beauty, once I get the recently acquired Merc V6 150 on her. Would love to hear of others with similar and a rough guess at prop size. The engine has a 21” laser 2 on it now, but suspecting she will need a 23”. Soon find out once I get some data on the test run.
I dare say she’ll be quick.
Such a rare boat here. Very little info.
All opinions and thoughts welcome

thanks guys.

Mine ran 53- 54 MPH spinning a 22P Mercury Lightspeed , which is the same prop as a Laser II without the fancy embossing on the prop hub. It was steady as a rock at that speed,. I'm sure I could have gotten high 50's if I had raised the motor & pitched up. I think that V6 will push it into the 60's and IMHO that hull is not designed to safely run at those speeds. That's what they made the CVX20 for.;)

Ah. Blind date. It’s you I remember having one. This one I have is a Uk built under license roger Clark version. Only made for a few years in limited numbers. Uprated build in stringers and transom. Rated at 140hp.
Hopefully not too much for the old girl.

Yours is lovely. Hoping to get mine back to her former glory soon. Was abandoned for a while.

I've had two CVX-16s. Each rated for 125hp max.
'79 with a 115 Johnson 1632 cc running a 23" pitch SST no setback, but reinforced transom with motor mounted high. 55-56 mph.
'89 with a 120 Evinrude 2.0L running 19/21" SST props with motor mounted at more of a standard height, and never really set it up for top speed, but the loop-charged 120 had potential. 53 mph.

This hull responds to getting the lower unit lifted out of the water for less drag. Squirrely handling when trimmed out and ventilation in the turns are the tradeoffs. GlassicGlastron website has model-specific info you'd be looking for.

Brilliant stuff. Really appreciate it. Hopefully the 150 mercury is going on tomorrow. Transom is solid but I’m putting a 24”x4.5” stainless strip across the inner mounts to spread the load. This particular U.K. built one is rated to 140hp when new.

The engine is coming off a glastron ssv 167. Had a wee blast in it before the engine comes off. Got to 53/54 gps and started badly chine walking. Hopefully the cvx is better behaved. World of difference compared to the campion. She is so stable trimmed out. Forgot all about the fast outboard powered characteristics haha. Can’t wait.

Hydraulic steering? Or at least dual cable set up? Foot throttle? Do a search on “Tom Brown CVX-16”

from my years on forums and reading about hull mods and over-powered Glaston/Carlson’s, Tom has a ton of experience and as much wisdom as anyone. He pretty much rebuilt his entire boat to make it straight and strong.

Just remember you’re piloting a 40yr old boat. Be safe out there.

Hi skibrain

just normal steering at the moment. No foot throttle. I think I’ll be taking it easy on the old girl most likely. Won’t be used much. Just really a rescue project more than anything. Couldn’t stand to see last owner leave her as she was.
I’ll look up what you’ve sent. That’s great and thanks.
The prop on the engine that’s going on her is a 21”. Keep reading about folk with way bigger pitch but perhaps this is a result of people mainly with smaller gear boxes on lesser engines with lower drive ratios. I did naturally think a 23” would suit it well from experience with similar sized hulls and V6 mercs. The 21” seemed to be well suited to the boat the engine is currently on now. A ssv 167. Not as fast a hull though I suppose. Terrible chine walk at just over 50 though.
Problem is I’m comparing it to my usual boat I suppose. A little in fair of me. Just need to be careful with this wee thing. Not maybe designed to run as fast as my other boat. Keep it in mind.
